i was actually looking for some fabrics in a store yesterday but i was amazed of all the beautiful dresses hanging all over the place. and all of them are smocked! heavenly beautiful! i've never heard of smocking before, and pleating and bishop and yoke dress.. so i was pretty interested listening to the lady explaining them to me. and when the lady offered to teach me to smock in a course, i just jumped in straight away.
so this is my first smocking pattern for a beginner, completing soon :) can't wait to have it made into a dress for ashley.
it may look complicating with all the pleats so close up together but if you like embroidery than you should be no problem in smoking smocking. happy puffing pinching ! (yes, i actually pinched the needle so hard and it leaved mark on my finger)

i know what you meant. i felt the same when i first saw it. it's clearer when someone can show it to you.
do you have any australian smocking and embroidery magazines? i did not know if you had ever heard of them. they are huge where i live and there are patterns for everything featured in the magazine.
Your smocking is gorgeous. I do some, but am self-taught. I have searched all over the web to see things like what you have made. I'd love to know how to do the little flowers & bows.
